As you approach this beautiful little monument you are welcomed by two large outlying stones measuring over 3m tall and 1.5m across. These form a gateway which leads you into a 15m diameter, 1m high, henge situated in a wooded glade with breaks at NE and SW. Within this henge, not quite centrally placed are 7 stones forming a 4m circle with a small rock placed at the centre. This site is supposed to be closed to the public but there are usually signs of activity in the form of coins and other tokens/charms left on the central stone.

History

This stone circle was regarded as typical of the Cork-Kerry series, with the stones decreasing in height as they approach the axial stone at SW. However, recent interpretation has concluded that the identification of the axial stone and the associated orientation are open to question.

Folklore

These stones are known locally as the seven sisters, while the outlying stone pair are said to be their parents. Local folklore says they were a family of giants that were turned to stone.
