Discovered when still erect, the stone now lies in a small fenced enclosure next to the road. A large rectangular fallen slab of close-grained slate, 2.87metres in length and 1.78m wide. Along the northern edge of the upper face, is an ogham inscription which reads CORBI KOI MAQI LABRID (Here lies Corbmac Ó Cuinn). The stone was originally upstanding, with the wider, thicker portion, now the North end, being buried in the ground. The slab is currently resting on a concrete plinth.

History

Ballyboodan Ogham Stone was rediscovered sometime before 1841 when it was knocked down by treasure-seekers. In 1850 the tenant of the land wanted to destroy it so as to plough the field, but luckily it was saved by the landowner.
