This is a very large cist tomb measuring nearly 2.5m in length and over 1m wide. It is about 75cm deep. The capstone is now missing and the area around it has been hollowed out. It is aligned towards Maeve's Cairn on Knocknarea. Five stones, protruding from the ground just beyond the N end of the cist, are of uncertain origin.

History

The cist may be a later addition to the Carrowkeel Complex. Cists are structures used for burial purposes, constructed from stone slabs set on edge and covered by one or more horizontal slabs or capstones. They usually date to the Bronze Age (c. 2400 BC - 500 BC).
